Jurky began her hockey journey while attending Colorado State University (CSU) and continued playing in an adult women’s league (WACH). However, a severe injury led to six knee surgeries, including a full knee replacement, and doctors told her she would never play hockey again. After a decade-long hiatus, Jurky defied the odds by working out rigorously and joining an adult league in the 2014-15 season, achieving an undefeated season and winning the championship.

Inspired by her comeback, Jurky enrolled at the University of Denver (DU) for a master’s degree and discovered she could play for the DU Women’s Hockey Team as a grad student. Despite her age and knee replacement, she made the team and played for two seasons, even facing her alma mater, CSU. After graduating, Jurky now captures moments as a photographer at DU Women’s Hockey games, staying connected with the sport.
